David was born in Tbilisi, Georgia, but has been living in Ukraine for over 20 years, where he celebrates not only himself but also the cultural heritage of both countries through his art.

His works are a combination of ethnic motifs, sunny colors and unique aesthetics that strike the heart of every art lover.

David Sharashidze, born and raised in Georgia, embarked on his artistic journey in Kyiv, Ukraine, in 1993 after a professional photography career. His art is deeply rooted in the Georgian spirit and Ukraine’s cultural heritage.

David’s diverse portfolio includes paintings, ceramic and wooden objects, prints and jewellery pieces. He frequently employs a “painting within a painting” technique, incorporating his earlier artworks into new compositions. This method crafts a timeless and serene atmosphere, forming an integral world of tranquillity and contemplation.

The artist is known for his vibrant use of colour, with his compositions often featuring his signature crimson pomegranates, deep blues, rich greens, and golden yellows. ‘Colour is my primary element,’ says David, ‘and composition is my main theme’. His process begins with a black primer, onto which he meticulously sketches before filling the image with colours and emotions. This unique approach showcases his acute sense of framing honed from his black-and-white photography days.

David’s characters and cityscapes embody universal, meditative states, detached from life’s turmoil. “When I depict the old city or flowers, it’s about the essence, not specifics,” the artist explains. David’s artistic philosophy prioritises tranquillity, eliminating unnecessary elements to create space for inner peace.
